[Greenland officials deny that the United States is about to launch large-scale exploration on the island] October 15th. In response to US President Trump’s remarks on October 14 that the United States is about to conduct large-scale oil, natural gas and mineral resource exploration in Greenland, Greenland officials said that it is “still early” to carry out these activities. At the same time, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the agreement signed in September by the United States, Denmark and its autonomous territory Greenland did not give the United States any preferential treatment in accessing Greenland's natural resources. Greenland’s Deputy Minister of Mines, Jorn Hameken-Holm, said that there are indeed U.S. companies carrying out small-scale exploration activities on the island, but “it is still early for large-scale exploration.” The United States, Denmark and its autonomous territory Greenland signed an agreement at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 22, allowing the United States to further expand its military presence in Greenland. However, it did not explicitly mention oil and natural gas, and only generally mentioned "mineral cooperation" and "economic development and commercial promotion cooperation." (CCTV News)
