[Falling stock market coupled with yields attracting U.S. debt "safe-haven trade" returns] On October 15, U.S. Treasury bonds led the global bond market as the stock market sell-off intensified risk aversion and triggered demand for safe-haven assets. During early Asian trading on Thursday, the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield fell as much as 10 basis points to 5.09%, and yields of other maturities also fell. "The market has finally returned to the old path of pursuing quality assets, which is buying Treasuries when stocks are selling off," said a senior analyst at ITC Markets. The gains in U.S. Treasuries come as debate intensifies over whether the recent decline that has pushed yields to multi-year highs is unlocking value for investors. Several fund houses, including Pimco and J.P. Morgan Asset Management, are optimistic about bonds, although accelerating U.S. inflation and large debt supplies keep the risk of another selloff remaining.
