[Pilot application for degrees based on practical results. Some professional degree graduate students do not need to write traditional dissertations] On October 19, the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council recently issued the "Opinions on How to Apply for Professional Degree Graduates Using Practical Achievements to Apply for Degrees." Based on the earlier use of practical results for engineering master's and doctorates to apply for degrees, five professional degree categories will be promoted as pilot projects. During this year’s graduation season, many colleges and universities have expanded the pilot program for applying for professional degrees based on practical results. Some master’s and doctoral students do not need to write traditional dissertations, but can successfully obtain degrees based on practical results. The issuance of the "Opinions" aims to provide policy compliance for schools in various places to carry out scientific and standardized application for degree based on practical results and ensure the quality of degree awarding. According to reports, this reform is still in the trial and exploratory stage and will be implemented in batches for various professional degree categories. In the next step, the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council will organize and guide the professional degree teaching committees to develop "Basic Requirements" for master's and doctoral degrees in this category. The first batch is planned to be piloted in five professional degree categories: translation, agriculture, clinical medicine, accounting, and art.
