[Qatar will announce a new regional defense partnership] On October 19, at the Global Security Forum in Doha, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Al Thani said: “I am pleased to announce that we will soon announce a new partnership,” and mentioned that the plan involves cooperation with regional partners on new defense initiatives. Al-Thani said Qatar has recently conducted an assessment of its defense capabilities, focusing on air defense, anti-drone measures, cybersecurity and water security. He also stressed the importance of greater cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. "The most important thing is that we have reached a consensus on basic principles," he said. "Every country has its own foreign policy." Al-Thani pointed out that cooperation with the United States has enhanced the defense capabilities of the Gulf region. He said that thanks to the sharing of expertise and decades of military investment, "more than 90% of attacks" during the conflict were successfully prevented.
