[Qatar LNG ship rarely passes through the Red Sea to speed up gas delivery to Europe] On October 19th, a transport ship carrying Qatar’s LNG was sailing north in the Red Sea. The rare passage through waters likely to be vulnerable to renewed Houthi attacks is expected to speed up gas deliveries to European customers. The rare voyage comes as European gas prices are at their highest levels in nearly four years. Commercial ships are increasingly taking long-distance detours to avoid the Red Sea, often around Africa's Cape of Good Hope on their way to Europe. The route could add nearly two weeks to a one-way voyage and drive up shipping costs.
