[Hard X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility Emits Light for the First Time] October 21, 2020 The reporter learned from the Shanghai University of Science and Technology today (October 21) that important progress has been made in the construction of the national major scientific and technological infrastructure - the Hard X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility (SHINE). The device uses electron beams generated by a 4 GeV continuous wave superconducting linear accelerator to drive 18 undulator lines with a length of 4 meters and a magnetic period of 55 mm. It successfully achieves the first light emission of a free electron laser, taking a critical step towards its completion and commissioning by the end of 2027. (CCTV News)
