[Over 80% of global new ship orders are flowing to China] October 23rd, today, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released statistics on the national shipbuilding industry from January to September 2026. The three major indicators of the shipbuilding industry continue to lead the world, and Chinese shipbuilding continues to dominate the global market. The latest data shows that from January to September 2026, China's shipbuilding completion volume was 58.05 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 50.7%; the number of new orders received was 175.29 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 163.2%; as of the end of September, the number of orders on hand was 399.13 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 64.8%. China's shipbuilding completion volume, new orders, and orders on hand accounted for 63.6%, 81.8%, and 72.4% of the global market share respectively. Not only do the three major shipbuilding indicators continue to lead the world, but the green transformation of ships is also accelerating. China’s international market share of new green-powered ship orders reached 74.1%, an increase of 5.7 percentage points from January to June.
