[Banking industry reportedly shelved bond issuance of data centers in Texas related to Anthropic] On October 29, it was reported that banks are delaying the sale of a US$15 billion loan to fund a bond issuance plan for data centers related to Anthropic PBC after the state of Texas in the United States suspended new project approvals due to assessment of power grid risks. The delay in the bond offering comes as Anthropic is investing heavily in computing infrastructure ahead of its massive initial public offering, which will force banks to hold the debt on their balance sheets longer than originally planned. Lenders led by Morgan Stanley have raised about $15 billion to fund construction of a data center in Hubbard, near Waco, Texas. The bank had hoped to sell $5 billion to $7 billion to high-yield bond investors in September to refinance some of the loans, according to people familiar with the matter. Sales are now likely to happen in tranches over the next year. The debt package includes a $14.2 billion one-year loan and a $1.4 billion five-year revolving credit facility, part of which the lender is seeking to refinance through high-yield bond investors.
