[Construction of the world's first commercial high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear island has been fully launched] On November 6, the construction of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor "Chilong 1" nuclear island of Jiangsu Xuwei Nuclear Power Plant was fully launched. This marks that China's independent fourth-generation nuclear power technology has entered the stage of large-scale commercialization. The high-temperature gas-cooled reactor "Chilong 1" is a fourth-generation advanced nuclear energy technology independently developed by China and with completely independent intellectual property rights. It uses spherical fuel elements and can withstand high temperatures of 1,620 degrees Celsius. Even if the nuclear power plant loses its cooling function, the reactor can remain safe by natural heat dissipation. This "inherent safety" feature lays the foundation for the large-scale application of high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. When the reactor is operating, the coolant helium carries the heat generated by the nuclear reactions out of the core. Due to the stable chemical properties and high outlet temperature of helium, high-temperature gas-cooled reactors can not only generate electricity, but also provide high-temperature industrial steam, and have a wide range of applications.
