[The scientific research team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has made important progress in the design of low-cost sodium ion halide solid electrolytes] November 5th. With abundant sodium resources and outstanding cost advantages, sodium-ion batteries have important application potential in large-scale energy storage and other fields. Recently, the team of researcher Hu Yongsheng and associate researcher Xie Fei of the E01 Clean Energy Key Laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences/Beijing National Research Center for Condensed Matter Physics prepared a series of amorphous halide solid-state electrolytes xNaBF₄–ZrCl₄ through a one-step mechanochemical method using low-cost NaBF₄ and ZrCl₆ as precursors. The prepared solid electrolyte material exhibits a high room temperature ionic conductivity of 1.01 mS/cm. The all-solid-state sodium battery assembled based on this electrolyte material can be stably cycled for 400 cycles in the voltage range of 2.5-4.2 V and exhibits excellent low-temperature capacity retention. An effective strategy based on the competitive coordination of cations to induce anion rearrangement and thereby produce polyhedral distortion provides important reference and guidance for the source design of low-cost amorphous halide solid electrolyte materials.
