[New complex is expected to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy] November 5th, the team of Artem Guchin at the Nikolayev Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is developing a new complex that is expected to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. This is the research result related to tumor treatment disclosed by Gu Qin in the academic report "Application of Metal Composite Compounds in the Treatment of Malignant Tumors". According to Guqin, chemotherapy drugs are composed of two parts: a central metal atom (mostly platinum) and a ligand. Ligands surround metal atoms to form a coordination "shell" that regulates the interaction between drugs and human tissues. At this stage, the mainstream clinical anti-tumor chemotherapy drug cisplatin and its derivatives rely on this structural feature to target the DNA of cancer cells.
