[Protests broke out in many European countries, calling for the suspension of data center construction] On November 8, a wave of protests against the construction of data centers is spreading in many places in Europe. On Saturday local time, people in many countries took to the streets to express concerns about the energy consumption, environmental damage and social impact that the rapid expansion of data centers may bring. It is reported that more than 100 civil organizations and rights groups from 15 European countries participated in this joint action to protest the rapid expansion of energy-consuming data centers and called for a suspension of all new large-scale data center projects until a clearer regulatory system is established. According to reports, about 2,000 people participated in a march in Dublin on Saturday, and about 1,300 people rallied in Helsinki. Similar demonstrations were also held in many smaller towns in Finland. Stop Dirty Data Centers, a coalition of local democracy and climate protest groups, said the action aimed to "stop the unfettered expansion of AI data centers and prevent our democracy from being hijacked by the interests of big tech companies." Environmental and social activist groups from Scotland to Spain, France to Denmark have also joined the action, calling for a moratorium on data center construction.
