[Argentina increases defense and diplomacy budget for this fiscal year to support diplomatic operations in the Falkland Islands] On September 5, Argentine President Milai signed a decree on the 4th to amend the budget for fiscal year 2026, increase funding for defense, military and intelligence departments, and allocate funds to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support diplomatic operations involving the Malvinas Islands (referred to as the Falkland Islands, known as the Falkland Islands in the UK). The decree shows that Argentina’s Ministry of National Defense and the Army, Navy, Air Force and Joint Staff will receive an additional 217.954 billion Argentine pesos (approximately US$145 million) in funding. Argentina’s National Intelligence Secretariat has new funding of 30.519 billion Argentine pesos (approximately US$20.24 million). The total funding of Argentina’s National Space Activities Committee has been adjusted to 119.2895 billion pesos (approximately US$79.09 million). In addition, the decree allocates 561.05 million Argentine pesos (approximately 3.72 million U.S. dollars) to the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs for diplomatic operations involving the Falklands issue and Antarctic and South Atlantic affairs.
