[The Argentine government announces sanctions on 45 companies and individuals involved in the Malvinas Islands issue] September 5th, Argentine President Milai announced on the 4th that sanctions will be imposed on foreign companies and related personnel that exploit natural resources in the Malvinas Islands and disputed waters. The Argentine government said in a statement that it would initiate sanctions procedures against a total of 45 companies and individuals. The sanctions would not only target companies that illegally conduct oil and gas exploration and extraction in the Falklands and surrounding waters, but also target shareholders of these companies and companies that provide services to them. Argentina’s Clarion newspaper reported that the sanctions list includes a number of companies and corporate shareholders, consultants and other personnel from the United Kingdom, Israel, the United States, the Netherlands and Canada.
