[Funds cut long bets before European natural gas rises this week] September 9th: Investment funds and speculators cut their net long positions in European natural gas for the second consecutive week before escalating tensions in the Middle East pushed European natural gas prices to a three-year high. Data released by Intercontinental Exchange on Wednesday showed that net long positions in Dutch benchmark natural gas futures fell 4.1% in the week to September 4. Since then, tensions have increased in the Persian Gulf and concerns over global supplies have sent European benchmark natural gas prices soaring. Current positions are still biased towards the long side.
