[The Iran war and the AI craze are pushing up inflation, and the effect of the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes may be compromised] On September 10, Federal Reserve officials have hinted that they are prepared to raise interest rates if inflation does not improve soon. However, they may find that their main policy tools may not be able to exert much restraint in the face of some of the factors currently driving up price increases. Based on futures contracts, investors currently expect about a 60% chance of the Fed raising interest rates at its Sept. 15-16 meeting. Stephanie Roth, chief economist at Wolfe Research, said, "The key factors driving inflation above trend levels are the Iran war, tariffs, and chip shortages. Even if the Fed raises interest rates once or twice, it is unlikely to fundamentally change this background."
