[Chile becomes the first country in South America to eliminate dog-to-human rabies] September 15th, the World Health Organization said on the 14th that thanks to Chile’s continuous prevention and surveillance work in the field of public health for more than 50 years, the country has become the first country in South America to eliminate dog-to-human rabies. According to reports, the WHO said that the last case of dog-to-human rabies in Chile was in 1972. In the following decades, Chile eliminated dog-to-human rabies through mass vaccination of pets, vaccination of people who may have been exposed to related viruses, strengthening dog management, and community education.
