[Chery Automobile, BYD, SAIC, etc. are all stepping up research and development to speed up the "onboarding" of solid-state batteries.] On October 13, the solid-state battery research and development process of many Chinese car companies is accelerating. On October 12, the relevant person in charge of Chery Automobile confirmed to a reporter from the Shanghai Securities News that the solid-state battery research and development of the company’s battery division is progressing steadily. On October 8, Chery Automobile released a number of solid-state battery equipment procurement projects in 2026, covering core aspects such as solid-state battery research and development, preparation, and testing. Not only Chery Automobile, the reporter learned from interviews that mainstream domestic car companies with new energy businesses such as BYD, SAIC, and Dongfeng Motor have recently stepped up their research and development of solid-state batteries. Industry experts told reporters that the "incorporation" of solid-state batteries into vehicles is one of the main development directions of new energy vehicles in the world and is also a "must be fought for by military strategists." As competition in the new energy vehicle industry escalates, it is foreseeable that major Chinese car companies will launch their own solid-state battery models in the future. At the same time, domestic battery industry chain companies will usher in new industry opportunities. (Shanghai Securities News)

[Industry insiders: In the medium and long term, sodium batteries will replace some low-end lithium batteries. The popularity of all-solid-state batteries depends on industry chain cost control] September 3rd, at the "2026 World Power Battery Conference" held today, the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the "Power Battery Industry Development Index (2026)". Qu Guochun, director of the Equipment Industry Development Center, introduced that the power battery industry technology is adapting to multiple routes in layers, and the next generation of batteries is accelerating. In the short term, liquid lithium batteries are still the main product, and their performance continues to iterate; in the medium term, the three-line parallel pattern of "liquid lithium batteries + sodium batteries + semi-solid batteries" continues to evolve. Sodium-ion batteries will replace part of the low-end lithium battery market, and semi-solid batteries will become an upgrade solution for mid-to-high-end models after full commercialization. In the long term, the popularity of all-solid-state batteries depends on cost control in the industry chain. As the manufacturing process continues to mature and material and manufacturing costs drop significantly, all-solid-state batteries have the basic conditions to penetrate into the mid-range vehicle market.
