55% of domestic computing power is used for videos and short dramas? Doubao spokesperson refutes rumors

📅 2026-10-19

Abstract:

Recently, the topic of "more than half of the country's AI computing power is creating cool dramas" has attracted attention and discussion on the Internet, and was once on the Weibo hot search. In response to this rumor, on October 19, Liu Xing, the head of Doubao’s public relations, posted on Weibo to refute the rumor, clearly stating that the relevant data was untrue.

According to information disclosed in an "Investor Relations Activity Record Form" previously circulated online, 55% of domestic AI Token consumption is used for short dramas and video generation, 24% is used for e-commerce advertising, and only 15% is actually used for research and development.

The news also stated that the consumption of tokens generated by AI short dramas and videos has reached more than twice that of software development, becoming the largest core consumption scenario in the entire token economics. In the first half of 2026, Douyin launched 220,000 new AI short dramas on its platform. A 12-episode short drama will cost nearly 200,000 yuan in computing power. Thousands of vulgar stories such as counterattacks, sudden wealth, domineering presidents, and time-traveling son-in-laws are produced 24 hours a day.

In response to this statement, Liu Xing posted screenshots of relevant reports on Weibo, and marked these key data in red with the word "untrue".

Liu Xing made it clear in the blog post: "The computing power data released by a company is somewhat unreliable. In terms of bytes, only about 10% of our company's total computing power is used for training and inference of video generation models."
