Apple acquires AI audio company Samplab to strengthen music creation tool layout

📅 2026-10-20

Abstract:

Apple recently completed an acquisition deal in the field of music creation. According to information disclosed by the European Commission, Apple acquired some assets of the artificial intelligence audio editing company Samplab in June this year and absorbed some employees to join the company team.

Samplab is a company specializing in AI audio processing technology. The software and plug-ins it develops can realize functions such as audio conversion to MIDI, chord recognition and editing, and audio track separation. One of the company's core technologies allows users to directly edit individual notes in polyphonic audio while retaining the timbre characteristics of the original recording as much as possible. This type of function has high application value in the field of music production.

The industry generally believes that Apple may integrate related technologies into its music creation software in the future. Currently, Logic Pro already has capabilities such as track separation and chord recognition, and Samplelab’s technical accumulation in polyphonic audio editing is expected to further expand the functional scope of Apple’s professional audio tools.

EU documents show that this transaction is not a complete acquisition of the entire Samplab company, but involves the transfer of some assets and employees. Relevant regulatory documents did not disclose the specific transaction amount and financial details.

After completing the transaction, Samplab will cease operations in September 2026, and its official website has now jumped to Apple's official website. This shows that relevant technologies and teams have been officially integrated into the Apple system.

The reason why this acquisition was known to the outside world was related to the regulatory requirements of the European Union’s Digital Market Act. As a large technology company designated as a "gatekeeper", Apple is required to report acquisitions involving digital services, core platform services and data-related fields to the European Commission, so this originally unannounced deal came to light.

In recent years, Apple has continued to increase its investment in artificial intelligence technology, and has continued to expand its layout from device-side AI to content creation tools. With the addition of the Samplab technical team, Apple is expected to further enhance the capabilities of Logic Pro, GarageBand and other products in AI-assisted music production, and provide more advanced audio editing tools for professional musicians and ordinary creators.
