Abstract:
When Apple released the new generation of Apple TV 4K, it also launched a new fourth-generation Siri Remote. Although this new product, which sells for $59, has little change in appearance from the previous generation, it has added a number of practical functions, making it one of the more obvious iterations of upgrades in recent years.

The biggest improvement this time comes from the "Find" function support. The new Siri Remote is compatible with Apple's "Find" app and Precision Finding function for the first time. When users cannot find the remote control, they can directly locate its location through a compatible iPhone. There is also a new speaker inside the remote control that can actively emit beeps to help users quickly find their device.
Apple stated that the precise search function needs to be used with devices that support relevant positioning technology, including iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and other models.
In terms of compatibility, the new Siri Remote is not limited to the just-released new Apple TV 4K, but is backwards compatible with multiple generations of products. Supported devices include fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, third-generation Apple TV 4K, second-generation Apple TV 4K, first-generation Apple TV 4K, and Apple TV HD. This means that a large number of existing Apple TV users can get the positioning function upgrade brought by the new remote control without changing their set-top box.
In addition to Apple TV devices, this remote control can also establish a connection with Mac computers, but in the absence of additional software support, the functions that can be achieved are relatively limited.
From a design perspective, the new Siri Remote continues the aluminum alloy body design in recent years, and the overall button layout is basically the same as that of the previous generation. The focus of Apple's update this time is not to redesign the appearance, but to solve the problem of "the remote control is easily lost" that has long been encountered by users while maintaining a familiar operating experience.
With the addition of search network and precise positioning capabilities, the new Siri Remote has become another device in Apple’s home entertainment product line that deeply integrates the “find” ecosystem. For those who already own an Apple TV HD or previous Apple TV 4K, you can simply purchase this $59 remote separately to get new features without upgrading the entire hardware system.
