Changan Automobile's new chairman speaks out for the first time since taking office

Abstract:

"This domestic competitive situation has sometimes actually entered a stage of Matthew effect and reshuffle. Some friends may have some irrational behaviors. At this final stage, its products and pricing may be biased against the rules of the market and normal sustainable development." On the afternoon of October 16, Zhao Fei, the new chairman of Changan Automobile (000625.SZ), said this at a media communication meeting.

He said that the domestic auto market has declined severely, but there are still opportunities overseas. Changan must go all out to focus on overseas development. Changan may be stronger than some foreign friends in new energy and intelligence, which allows Changan to maintain its advantages.

Zhao Fei said that Changan will adhere to the existing strategic direction and operating mechanism, and focus on overseas, product, efficiency and brand integration as the next four focus directions. Among the four focuses, overseas ranks first. Changan needs to integrate globally and formulate a globally oriented large single product strategy.

Data from the China Passenger Car Association Branch show that domestic retail sales of narrowly defined passenger cars were 1.618 million units in September, a year-on-year decrease of 28.0%, and the retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles rose to 67.0%. Changan Automobile sold 215,000 vehicles in September, a year-on-year decrease of 19.1%, of which 94,200 were sold overseas.

On October 16, Changan Automobile announced a series of important personnel changes. Zhu Huarong continues to serve as party committee secretary and chairman of China Changan Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Changan Automobile"), coordinating the overall planning and long-term development of its automobile business from the group level. He no longer holds any position in the company and its holding subsidiaries. Zhao Fei, the former president of Changan Automobile, was promoted to chairman, and Ye Pei, the former executive vice president, was promoted to president.

The announcement stated that this adjustment aims to give full play to China Changan Automobile's role as a professional automobile industry group in "setting strategies, allocating resources, promoting collaboration, controlling risks, and strengthening incentives", optimizing the market-oriented mechanism, and focusing on global operations.

"Irrational competition" also appears in the expressions of regulatory authorities.

On October 15, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the State Administration for Market Regulation organized more than 30 key automobile manufacturers to conduct a discussion to interpret the "Notice on Further Strengthening the Management of Innovative Design and R&D Testing and Verification of Automotive Products (Draft for Comments)" and report on problems discovered in early supervision and inspections. The meeting requires automobile manufacturers to resolutely resist irrational competition, comprehensively strengthen testing and verification, standardize marketing and publicity activities, and shall not make false, exaggerated or misleading publicity, shall not use scenes that violate road traffic regulations to promote product functions, and shall not induce drivers to ignore their responsibility for safe driving.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that the next step will be to accelerate the formulation and revision of relevant standards, continue to carry out supervision and inspection of key automobile manufacturers, seriously deal with problematic manufacturers in accordance with laws and regulations, and expose them to the public. Urge automobile manufacturers to strengthen automobile product testing and verification, resolutely adhere to the bottom line of product safety, and promote high-quality development of the automobile industry.
