Summary:
An eBay spokesperson confirmed that the company will lay off about 9% of its employees, a move aimed at streamlining operations and focusing on the fastest-growing areas. The layoffs will affect approximately 1,000 employees. "As we work to seize the significant opportunities ahead, we have taken this step to ensure we continue to operate from a strong position by aligning our teams and resources with our highest strategic priorities," the spokesperson said in a statement.

The company also said it will continue to recruit in "priority areas consistent with our strategy." As of the end of 2025, eBay has approximately 12,300 employees.
This is the online marketplace’s second round of layoffs this year. It previously laid off 6% of its employees in February, affecting about 800 employees. The company has been steadily shrinking its headcount in recent years as it ramps up spending on artificial intelligence.
Bay also acquired second-hand clothing resale platform Depop from Etsy earlier this year - the brand has a strong user base of Generation Z and Millennials. The $1.4 billion deal closed in July.
EBay’s stock price is now up about 1%.
