Abstract:

AMD and Xbox announced the expansion of graphics technology cooperation, and FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 will enter the Xbox ecosystem. This technology will first be applied to the ROG Xbox Ally handheld console, and will later be available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, but the specific launch date for the console has not yet been announced.

Xbox Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Vliet said that the two parties have been closely optimizing around FSR 4.1, with the goal of providing developers with tools that balance performance and image quality. The scope of cooperation also includes technologies such as chips in Xbox and Windows hardware, DirectX, Advanced Shader Delivery and AutoSR.

In terms of the next-generation Xbox project, AMD confirmed that the hardware code-named Project Helix will use FSR Diamond. AMD has not yet disclosed Diamond’s specific features, hardware specifications and Project Helix’s launch time.

FSR 4.1 will be available on Xbox and FSR diamonds will be available on the next generation Xbox console Project Helix

AMD also stated that its FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling research was partly derived from the "Project Amethyst" cooperation with Sony Interactive Entertainment. This work focuses on the combination of advanced graphics rendering and machine learning and forms the basis for FSR 4.1 on the Radeon RX 6000, RX 7000 and RX 9000 series, as well as the related spectral super-resolution technology on the PlayStation 5.

According to the currently announced route, machine learning upscaling will further cover existing Xbox consoles on PCs and handheld consoles, and will enter the technical planning of the next generation of Xbox. Its actual image quality, performance gains and game support range still need to be demonstrated later.

Detailed reports from foreign media:

AMD and Xbox announced in cooperation that AMD FidelityFX super-resolution enhancement technology 4.1 will soon be launched on Xbox, first on the ROG Xbox Ally handheld console, and later on the Xbox Series X|S console.

AMD stated that the next-generation Xbox console Project Helix will use AMD FidelityFX super-resolution "Diamond" technology to "further promote the development of next-generation games."

Xbox Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Vliet said in a statement: "At Xbox, we are building a gaming platform designed to meet the needs of gamers and make it easier for content creators to reach them. AMD has been an important partner on this path for more than two decades. Our teams work hand in hand to continue to advance the development of games on Xbox and Windows platforms, from the core chips of consoles and handhelds, to DirectX, Advanced Shader Delivery (Advanced Shader Delivery) Delivery) and AutoSR technologies, these technologies help developers make fuller use of hardware and bring players a better gaming experience.”

Vliet continued: "We are excited to take another step together and bring FSR4.1 to Xbox. We have worked closely with AMD to optimize this technology, giving developers another powerful tool that can bring excellent performance and visual experiences to players. Whether you are playing on Xbox Ally handheld consoles or coming to Xbox Series consoles, this is just the beginning. Our teams will continue to work together on hardware and software. In the future, we will use Project Project Helix uses FSR Diamond technology to provide more powerful power for future gaming experiences.”

AMD FidelityFX super-resolution amplification technology is jointly developed with Sony Interactive Entertainment through the "Amethyst Project"

AMD said: “Our collaboration with Sony through Project Amethyst is an important part of this journey. Together, we explore the possibilities that are possible when advanced graphics rendering technology is combined with machine learning, and translate these results into technology that can improve the appearance and performance of games. This technology is AMD [FidelityFX Super Resolution] on AMD Radeon RX 6000, RX 7000 and RX 9000 series graphics cards. The core of Upscaling 4.1, [Quick Spectral Super Resolution] on PS5 and [PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution] on PS5 Pro.”
