AMD announced that FSR 4.1 has fully expanded the support range. RX 6000 graphics cards, APUs and Xbox will all be upgraded.

Abstract:

AMD officially announced the latest expansion plan for FSR 4.1 super-resolution technology on October 20, which will bring this machine learning-based image enhancement technology to more hardware platforms, including Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, multiple APU products, and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S game consoles.

Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Division, said at the latest press conference that the company has completed large-scale optimization work for the RDNA 2 architecture. This upgrade means that the entire RX 6000 series, from the flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT to the entry-level Radeon RX 6400, will officially support FSR 4.1.

This news is of great significance to the large number of players who are still using RX 6000 series graphics cards. This series of products has accumulated a huge installed base since its release in 2020. Although it could use earlier versions of FSR technology, it could not experience AMD's latest generation FSR 4.1, which is based on machine learning algorithms. With the arrival of official support, users of older generation graphics cards will be able to get better picture clarity and gaming performance.

In addition to discrete graphics cards, AMD also announced the expansion of FSR 4.1 to the APU product line. Support covers Ryzen AI Max series "Strix Halo" and "Gorgon Halo" processors, as well as Ryzen AI 9 "Strix Point" and "Gorgon Point" mobile platforms. At the same time, Ryzen Z2 series processors for handheld devices will also be added to the support list.

This means that in the future, more and more thin and light notebooks, high-performance mobile workstations and handheld gaming devices equipped with AMD integrated graphics cards will also be able to use FSR 4.1 to improve game frame rates and image quality.

In the field of game consoles, AMD confirmed that it has cooperated with Microsoft to introduce FSR 4.1 to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms. Since both consoles use AMD technology architecture, the addition of FSR 4.1 is expected to help developers improve operating efficiency while maintaining image quality, providing more room for performance optimization for future game works.

AMD also announced another important development this time, that is, FSR 4.1 officially supports the Vulkan graphics interface. As more and more large-scale games adopt Vulkan as the underlying rendering solution, this update will make it easier for developers to deploy FSR technology in related games, thereby further expanding their ecological coverage.

The company stated that it will continue to promote the expansion of FSR technology to more APUs and game platforms in the future, so that more devices can benefit from the latest image reconstruction and performance enhancement capabilities.

At the same time, AMD revealed that the FSR "Redstone" ecosystem for Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards currently covers more than 400 games and supports advanced functions such as FSR frame generation and Ray Regeneration, showing that AMD is continuing to expand its game graphics technology ecosystem.

The industry believes that this time FSR 4.1 covers RX 6000 series graphics cards, APUs and Xbox consoles, which not only significantly extends the life cycle of existing hardware, but also further narrows the gap in image enhancement technology between old and new platforms. For the tens of millions of players who are still using RDNA 2 architecture products, this is undoubtedly an attractive upgrade plan.
