Abstract:
Sony's rumored PS6 handheld console may become the only portable gaming device to use a dedicated semi-custom RDNA 5 chip. The industry is said to have discussed that the handheld console has "some kind of exclusivity" in RDNA 5, but the relevant statement has not been officially confirmed.

This "exclusivity" may not necessarily come from the exclusive agreement between Sony and AMD, but may more likely depend on the order size required for semi-customized processors. AMD is said to be more cautious in deciding whether to devote engineering resources to niche products.
The whistleblower Kepler_L2 previously claimed that if Microsoft wants AMD to develop dedicated chips for Xbox handheld consoles, it may need to commit to purchasing at least 10 million chips. In contrast, Sony's expected output may be more attractive to AMD. If the relevant news is true, other handheld consoles may continue to use the RDNA 4 solution.
Project Amethyst has disclosed neural arrays, radiant cores, and general compression technologies that may improve image reconstruction, ray tracing, memory bandwidth, and energy efficiency in portable devices. However, it remains uncertain whether they will be used in the rumored handheld console. At present, the device itself, chip specifications, price, game lineup and launch arrangements have not been officially confirmed.
