Abstract:

On October 14, Geely Holding Group issued the "Statement on Supporting the Consensus of China-EU Automobile Trade Consultations", expressing welcome and support for the positive results achieved at the second regular meeting of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism, and appreciating that both parties have properly handled automobile trade differences through intensive consultations based on the principles of mutual respect and equal consultation.

Geely Holdings stated that it supports the three basic principles of "respect for facts, non-discrimination and compliance" confirmed by both parties on hybrid vehicle trade. The relevant consensus is based on trade reality, reciprocity and mutual benefit, and takes into account the legitimate concerns of both industries, creating positive conditions for China and Europe's automotive industry to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Geely believes that within the framework of WTO rules, resolving differences through dialogue and consultation and promoting development through fair competition are in the common interests of Chinese and European enterprises and consumers.

The statement pointed out that a stable, predictable and sustainable trade and investment environment is an important foundation for enterprises to carry out long-term operations and cooperation. The results of this consultation will help avoid the escalation of trade frictions, stabilize market expectations, and enhance the confidence of enterprises in participating in China-EU economic and trade cooperation. We look forward to the steady implementation of relevant consensus.

Geely Holding also stated that it will adhere to open cooperation and operate in compliance with laws and regulations, serve consumers with technological innovation and high-quality products, actively expand exchanges and cooperation with European industrial partners, jointly maintain the stability of the automotive industry chain and supply chain, promote the green development of the automotive industry, and make positive contributions to the healthy development of China-EU economic and trade relations.

According to previous reports, on October 8-9, 2026, China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commission Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Sefcovic held the second regular meeting of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism in Beijing.

The list of consensus outcomes includes that the two sides will continue to explore the possibility of reducing tariffs on some goods under the framework of WTO rules. After intensive consultations, China and the EU reached an understanding on hybrid vehicle trade in a manner consistent with WTO rules.
