Abstract:
A few days ago, Egypt staged a highway robbery that looked like a Hollywood blockbuster, and was ridiculed by netizens as the Egyptian version of "The Fast and the Furious." The case occurred on August 25, local time, on the desert road from Cairo to Ismailia. A refrigerated truck loaded with 4 tons of frozen chicken departed from the factory and was targeted by a criminal gang of six people while driving.
The gang followed closely behind in a pickup truck and used the truck's freezer to block the view. Some people risked climbing out of the vehicle and using tools to open the refrigerated truck door and threw boxes of frozen chicken onto the accompanying pickup truck to complete the theft. Both vehicles were traveling at high speed throughout the process.
The entire crime process was photographed by a passing driver and posted online, triggering attention and discussion among netizens around the world.
What is surprising is that the truck driver was completely unaware that the truck was stolen. After arriving at the destination, he discovered that 105 kilograms of frozen chicken were missing. Later, when he saw the crime video circulated on the Internet, he realized that one of the protagonists was himself.
The Egyptian police launched an investigation based on the video clues and locked the criminal gang. They rounded up the suspects in many places in Cairo and Qalyoub Province. During the arrest, the gangsters opened fire on the police with guns. A fierce exchange of fire broke out between the two sides. The conflict resulted in the death of three suspects and the arrest of three others on the spot.
The police seized the pickup truck, 2 automatic rifles, and 1 shotgun involved in the case, and also recovered some of the stolen frozen chicken. The three arrested suspects have been transferred to the Procuratorate to face multiple charges such as armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and assaulting police officers.
