Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in an interview on Sunday that he would not mind paying billions of dollars more in taxes if California votes to pass the proposed "billionaire tax" this fall. The proposal would impose a one-time 5% tax on California residents with a net worth of at least $1 billion.
Jen-Hsun Huang, who is worth an estimated $184 billion, said paying as much as $8 billion in taxes over five years would not hinder him.
"Being able to afford to pay $8 billion in taxes over five years is a privilege," Huang said. "I view it as a privilege and a responsibility. Nothing makes me happier than being able to pay more taxes."
Huang Renxun also talked about his huge wealth in a humorous tone.
“I’m not afraid of paying taxes—I’m just afraid of being poor,” he said.
Huang described himself as the embodiment of the "ultimate American dream" and attributed the educational and career opportunities provided by the United States, which helped him embark on the path of entrepreneurship.
The Nvidia CEO also reflected on his early career, mentioning that he worked as a dishwasher at a Denny's restaurant before co-founding the chip company.
“I was really, really focused on washing dishes — more than anyone else,” Huang said, describing how far his career has come from his early beginnings.
