Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: Will cut off chip supply to customers who develop unsafe AI software

📅 2026-10-15

Abstract:

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he would stop supplying chips to customers if they were developing unsafe artificial intelligence (AI) software, but he believed there was no need to be so worried about the technology at the moment.

In an interview with Bloomberg Emily Chang in London, when asked whether he would stop supplying to irresponsible developers, Huang said, "This is a hypothetical question, but the answer is yes. However, before doing so, you will communicate first. We do not operate other people's companies, and we are limited in the judgment we can make on how other companies use our technology. Our technology is universal."

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that if any customer develops unsafe AI software, he will stop supplying it.

Nvidia is a major supplier of AI accelerators, the chips used to train and run AI models. That puts the company at the center of a debate over whether AI software is at risk of becoming too powerful and slipping away from human control. AI industry executives such as Anthropic PBC CEO Dario Amodei have suggested that the industry should slow down its development to address these concerns.

As the company is about to hold an event in Berlin, Huang is visiting many places in Europe. He said concerns about AI safety are one of the growing pains of this rapidly expanding industry. He believes that AI software can be controlled and deployed safely.

“Many young companies are experiencing growing pains, and they are growing at an incredibly fast pace,” Huang said. “Building a company comes with accountability and responsibility, and they are gradually adapting to these requirements.”

He said some of the current concerns were "self-inflicted" and that the industry had done a "terrible job" of explaining the benefits of the new technology.

Huang added that AI itself could be used to protect and help control the technology.

“We should speed up the integration of this prevention and control technology into AI systems,” he said. “We should speed up the development of monitoring technology, and AI is this monitoring tool. Therefore, we should speed up the development of AI technology.”
