Ukrainian President Zelensky is dissatisfied with SpaceX network restrictions and feels betrayed by Trump

📅 2026-10-15

Abstract:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed frustration and feelings of betrayal over Trump's diesel deal with Putin and U.S. restrictions on Kyiv's military's use of satellite terminals. "Unfortunately, we are losing, we are losing a strong partner, that's my opinion," Zelensky said in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan in London. "It's painful when President Trump chooses a side other than ours."

After Russia launched a round of missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, SpaceX's satellite Internet service was suddenly restricted from military use. Ukraine is seeking an explanation from the United States and NATO allies. Zelensky’s strong statement may intensify tensions between the United States and Ukraine.

According to a person familiar with the matter, SpaceX has restricted terminal connections, making it more difficult for Ukraine to intercept drones and carry out medium-range strikes. People familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said that Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense is communicating with the United States, NATO partners and SpaceX about the situation involving the Starshield network.

“I’m sure they knew what they did, absolutely,” Zelensky said in the interview. The full interview is expected to be broadcast on Piers Morgan Uncensored's YouTube channel.

Zelensky said that restrictions on the Ukrainian military's use of SpaceX terminals have led to civilian deaths because Ukrainian interception forces using this technology cannot defend against Russian explosives-laden drones as effectively as before. Zelenskiy said on X that Russia used a jet-powered drone to attack a grocery store in Lutsk, a city in western Ukraine near the Polish border, killing six people and injuring 13 others.
