Abstract:
KDE officially releases desktop environment Plasma 6.8. The new version adjusts window appearance rules and improves memory usage, loading speed and HDR color configuration processing, as well as accessibility changes and new system monitoring tools.

The new window rules can add rounded corners, shadows and strokes to applications that use the client to draw their own window decorations, allowing such windows that are not easy to follow KDE themes to maintain a more consistent appearance. KDE is also continuing to promote the Union theme engine, hoping that it will support Qt Widgets applications while retaining standard theme visual effects.
KDE said that Plasma 6.8 will reduce memory usage and speed up loading. KWin now enables triple buffering by default when using NVIDIA graphics cards. The new version also improves the underlying processing of HDR and ICC color profiles to improve the presentation of HDR content when using ICC profiles.

KDE has fully adopted Wayland and continues to be compatible with X11 applications through XWayland. The SteamOS installed on the Steam Deck has also exposed some players to KDE Plasma; currently, these performance and display changes are improvements to the version of Plasma 6.8, and there are no special adaptations or actual test results for the Steam Deck.
