Musk spent more than $276 million to support the Republican Party, becoming the largest donor in the 2026 U.S. midterm elections

Abstract:

As the 2026 U.S. midterm elections enter the final sprint, Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, SpaceX and X platform, has once again significantly increased his political investment. The latest disclosed information shows that since July this year, Musk has injected more than US$276 million into Republican-related political organizations, becoming the largest known individual funder in this midterm election.

According to public data, this money mainly flows to multiple political action committees and super political action committees that support the Republican Party. The largest amount of funds, approximately US$158 million, was invested in the Senate Leadership Fund, the most important super PAC in the Republican Senate camp, to support Republican candidates competing for Senate seats.

In addition, Musk has invested more than $76 million in the "America PAC" he created during the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The organization is currently launching large-scale vote-canvassing operations in multiple key states, hoping to increase turnout among Republican supporters to help the Republican Party maintain its dominance in Congress.

The report pointed out that America PAC has recently deployed nearly 3,000 paid ground staff across the country and carried out door-to-door voter mobilization work in multiple key constituencies. Relevant organizations said that the cumulative number of households they have knocked on and visited so far has reached millions.

In addition to the above two major investments, Musk has also provided tens of millions of dollars in funding to political organizations related to the Republican House of Representatives, the Governors Association, and political committees supporting specific candidates. This includes donations to political organizations that support Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, making Texas one of the important battlegrounds for Musk's political layout.

It is worth noting that this is in sharp contrast to Musk’s previous public stance. In 2025, he said that he would significantly reduce political expenditures in the future, saying that he had "done enough" in the political field. However, the actual situation today shows that not only did he not withdraw from the political stage, but he further expanded the scale of financial investment.

The report stated that although Musk no longer makes public statements as frequently as during the 2024 presidential election, his financial influence is still very prominent. Analysts believe that in the context of the Republican Party facing pressure from the economy, inflation and some policy disputes, the huge amount of money brought by Musk has provided the Republican Party with important campaign resources.

So far, Musk’s total investment in federal-level political organizations during the 2025-2026 election cycle has reached approximately $366 million, exceeding the scale of his political expenditures when supporting Trump and other Republican candidates in the 2024 election cycle.

The U.S. midterm elections will be held in November, when control of Congress will become the central focus. As voting day approaches, Musk's financial support has also made him one of the most influential political donors in this election cycle, and his subsequent actions are expected to remain widely watched.
