Abstract:
A Reddit netizen posted recently that he spent nearly 3,000 euros (approximately 23,235 yuan) to buy a top-end graphics card RTX 5090 on Amazon Netherlands. After receiving the goods and unboxing, it turned out to be two bags of rice, a bag of pasta, and a dusty old-generation graphics card.
It is understood that in order to match his Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57-inch ultra-widescreen monitor, the netizen saved up for a year before ordering the Gigabyte AORUS GeForce RTX 5090 Master (commonly known as the "big eagle").
Logistics showed that the graphics card was shipped from a Spanish warehouse. Although it was delivered by Amazon, the logistics delayed it for a week. When he got the package, he found that the seal of the graphics card packaging box had signs of being re-pasted, and the interior was stuffed with debris to simulate the weight of a top-end graphics card.
You must know that Dadiao RTX 5090 Master is one of the top air-cooled graphics cards currently on the market. It is characterized by a huge cooling fin set and a three-fan system. It is not only powerful in performance, but its physical specifications are also extremely amazing. The entire card often weighs more than 2 kilograms.
The scammers obviously know this well and accurately used agricultural products of the same weight to deceive the automated weighing system of Amazon warehouses.
Due to Amazon’s FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) model, if the returned goods are completely sealed and sealed, they are often directly entered into the warehouse and sold again, which also gives fraudsters an opportunity.
In fact, this kind of fraud targeting RTX 5090 is not an isolated case. According to previous reports, 42 consumers in the United States recently ordered the same graphics card at a leaked price of US$999 (approximately 7,090 yuan), but what they received was a cheap pocket bag.
In France, some players received graphics cards that looked intact, but had all the internal core chips and video memory removed, leaving only an empty PCB.
Currently, the netizen has applied for a refund to Amazon, but because the unit price of the product is too high and cross-border shipping is involved, the claims process is extremely cumbersome.
