Abstract:
A Steam Deck OLED that was lost on an Amtrak train was finally returned to its original owner after months of searching. Reddit user vgalz discovered that the owner had posted a missing item post nine months ago. After both parties verified the information and confirmed ownership, she returned the device.

This device was first discovered by vgalz's mother-in-law on the train. Because she didn't understand how to use the device and didn't know how to find its owner, it took several months before it was handed over to a family member. vgalz then posted messages on Steam, Steam Deck and Amtrak related communities, and tried to find clues through device accounts.
The search was not smooth at first. vgalz contacted Steam customer service and also left a message under the suspected owner's post, but failed to get results. Steam customer service stated that they could not directly assist the finder in contacting the account owner and suggested that she report it to the local police.

After that, vgalz found a missing item post posted by the real owner nine months ago. The title of the post mentioned that the device was lost in Alexandria. From the time the device was lost to the time it was returned, the price of Steam Deck OLED has increased significantly. Another Reddit user gifted a game to vgalz, thanking her for taking the time to find the owner.
