Abstract:
PS5 cracking technology is making progress almost every week. A hacked PS5 can now download Windows games from the Steam library and run them locally on the console, without the need to stream them through a PC.

The tool to achieve this function is Playden for PS5, which is an alpha version of the launcher developed by developer leolobato and ported based on the macOS version of Playden. Users can log into Steam by scanning a QR code, browse the game library, download games, and then launch each game from a separate tile on the PS5 home screen.
The underlying layer is based on prospero-win (PS5 port of Wine), and graphics processing is handled by DXVK. Unlike Linux on PS5, Playden does not need to launch a separate operating system, but runs as a normal PS5 application.
Development is progressing rapidly. The first public version was released on October 12, and version 0.5.0 added support for Direct3D 12 via VKD3D-Proton, which, according to the release notes, allowed games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Deep Rock Galaxy to run.

Version 0.6.0 released this week adds USB and FTP game import capabilities, 120Hz output, and 4K resolution options. Of course, these features are still in the experimental stage. There are quite a few games on the compatibility list that will work fine, most of which are older and indie games like Half-Life 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and Vampire Survivor, but there are also quite a few games that will crash or fail to launch.
Games with kernel-level anti-cheat mechanisms cannot run, games that require launchers such as EA apps are not currently supported, and developers have also warned that Steam login tokens are stored in unencrypted form on the console.
Two demos have appeared online: one is a video of Reddit user u/Cevap running Portal, and the other is a video of @v7dt1 showing off his complete Steam game library on the PS5 on the X. It is recommended that all users planning to try it first back up their cloud saves, as a vulnerability may cause the saves to be overwritten.
