Tesla will officially open its first mass production heavy-duty electric truck Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada, CEO Elon Musk will use this to enter the heavy-duty truck field. Tesla first released the Semi truck in 2017 and will deliver it in small batches to its first customers, including core customer PepsiCo, in 2022. Thursday's ribbon-cutting ceremony will be live streamed online at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, or 6 p.m. local time.
The plant comes into operation at a time when Tesla's core electric vehicle business faces increasingly fierce competition around the world; at the same time, high diesel prices bring potential opportunities for the shift to electrification in the commercial truck sector.

On Tuesday, industry alliance ZET SCALE said it had "selected Tesla as the main original equipment manufacturer" and placed an initial order for 2,500 trucks, with the goal of purchasing more than 10,000 electric trucks from multiple suppliers.
The freight company Einride also recently stated that it has agreed to purchase 500 Tesla Semi electric semi-trailer trucks for its own fleet, and some of the vehicles are scheduled to be put into operation this month.
