On Thursday local time, the lunar lander "Odysseus" built by Intuitive Machines, a private company in Houston, completed the United States' first unmanned lunar landing in more than half a century.

This marks the first soft landing on the moon by the United States since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. It is also the first lunar landing mission performed entirely by private companies.

Although the mission was completed by a private company, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson immediately boasted after the Odysseus lunar lander landed near the moon's south pole, calling the event "a giant leap for mankind."

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk also posted on his social media platform X to congratulate Intuitive Machines on its successful moon landing.
