The last time we heard about Google delaying the release of Android 14, it was rumored that it would eventually launch on October 4, the same day as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. At the time, it was just a rumor. Today, it has been somewhat confirmed.
This isn't an official announcement, and we certainly don't expect Google to announce it on launch day. What we got was Canadian carrier Telus listing when the software update would be released for the devices it sells. Under all Pixel devices starting with Pixel 4a, "Android U" is listed as launching on October 4th.
AndroidU is the abbreviation of AndroidUpsideDownCake and is the internal code name of Android14.
It's possible that someone at Google noticed the story being reported in various cyberspaces and asked Telus to remove the information, which the carrier promptly did. Of course, this is just outside speculation on the matter, and the information itself may be wrong, although this possibility is small.
The good news is, we'll know the answer in less than 48 hours.
