Recently, it was reported that NetEase employee Fuxi died of depression in a rental house. On September 14, NetEase Fuxi issued an internal letter announcing the incident and the company’s follow-up care plan. According to reports, the employee disclosed to the team that he was prone to depression two days before the incident and applied for annual leave to seek medical treatment. After the unfortunate incident, NetEase Fuxi immediately set up a special working group to assist family members in applying for special assistance funds, special commercial insurance claims and other care funds, and will support the education expenses of employees' children until they graduate from college at the age of 22.
In response to information such as "threat from HR due to BUG" circulated online, NetEase Fuxi responded that the security risk rating of the BUG is "minor" and the team will not be held accountable for this. After checking chat records and other existing information, no relevant motives and evidence of "HR threat" have been found, and promised that if there is any evidence to prove the existence of a threat in the follow-up investigation, the company will seriously deal with the relevant personnel.
An internal letter from NetEase Fuxi recounts what happened: At 3 p.m. on September 4, the employee revealed for the first time that he might have a tendency to suffer from depression and had suffered from insomnia in recent weeks. After HRBP learned about the situation, it arranged for him to take leave that afternoon. During the employee's vacation from September 4 to 6, the business manager, HR, team colleagues, etc. called and chatted many times to reassure him that he could rest assured and recover, and said that the manager would take full responsibility for any problems that occurred during the project. At 1 pm on September 5, the employee shared the mental health department checklist in the team work group and stated that he had started taking medication.
At 11 p.m. on September 6, after the company learned that an employee had an accident at his residence, relevant supervisors and colleagues immediately communicated with the family, hoping to see him for the last time. At the same time, the company started to apply for special assistance funds, special commercial insurance claims and other care funds. At the same time, the company promises to support the education expenses of employees’ children until they graduate from college at the age of 22.
In the internal letter, NetEase Fuxi also gave a detailed explanation of the "BUG" that caused concern. On September 1, the security department completed the assessment of the BUG and reported to the employee that the BUG was rated as "minor critical" and the probability of triggering was extremely low. The team and supervisor will not be held accountable for this. The main basis is: in actual business scenarios, the triggering conditions of this BUG are extremely harsh, the probability is low, and there is a repair plan, and it has not been triggered or caused adverse effects yet. From September 1st to 5th, the business manager and team colleagues communicated with the employee many times about this matter, emphasizing that minor and critical bugs are common, and even if they are triggered with a very small probability, the team and managers will not be held accountable. After restoration and analysis, the special team has not found any motivation or evidence related to the "HR threat". But at the same time, the company also promises that if there is any evidence that there is a threat in the follow-up investigation, the company will deal with the relevant personnel seriously.
NetEase Fuxi said that in addition to continuing to provide long-term and systematic free psychological care consultation services to employees and their immediate family members, NetEase will also increase investment, regularly organize special mental health activities, strengthen scientific publicity of mental health prevention and treatment knowledge, and provide more professional help to employees in need.
