As Microsoft officially launched Windows 1123H2 a few weeks ago, the company is preparing to say goodbye to support for the previous version, Windows 1122H2. In a support post published by Microsoft regarding the details of the latest "Patch Tuesday" update for Windows 1122H2, the company also provided additional explanations. It reads:
Important: After February 27, 2024, Windows 1122H2 will no longer release optional non-security preview builds. Supported Windows 11 version 22H2 will only continue to receive cumulative monthly security updates.
This means that Microsoft hopes that users who are still using the 22H2 version will upgrade to the new 23H2 version of Windows 11 as soon as possible if they also want to get new features such as Copilot.
Although non-security optional updates for Windows 1122H2 will be discontinued, users of this version of the operating system will still receive security updates for at least the next few months. The Windows 11 lifecycle page shows that the final security update for 22H2 will not end until October 8, 2024.
This is just the latest example of Microsoft quickly pushing users to update to new versions of Windows. In October this year, Microsoft officially terminated all support for Windows 1121H2 launched on October 5, 2021.
The current latest version of Windows 11 is 23H2, and Microsoft has set its support end date as November 11, 2025.
At the same time, Windows 1022H2 version is still supported by Microsoft. The company said its support lifecycle will end in nearly two years, until October 14, 2025.
The Public Interest Network, a non-profit organization, recently posted a petition online asking Microsoft to extend the life cycle of Windows 10, saying that Windows 11 has higher requirements for computer systems, which may mean that millions of computers cannot be updated, "which may cause the largest wave of computer obsolescence in history."
