Apple announced today that it will extend its satellite emergency service for free for one year for iPhone 14 users. The "Satellite SOS" service has saved countless lives around the world.
"From a man rescued after his car fell off a 400-foot cliff in Los Angeles to finding a lost hiker in Italy's Apennine Mountains, we continue to hear stories about our users getting in touch with emergency responders who otherwise wouldn't have been able to get in touch," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing. "We're excited that iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 owners can enjoy this groundbreaking service for free for another year."
This feature is available on all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models and allows users to send text messages to emergency services via satellite when cellular and Wi-Fi networks are not covered. Users can also share their location via satellite in the Find My app.
