The legal department of Ideal Auto recently issued a document reporting the follow-up to rumors about Ideal MEGA. The man involved was sentenced to seven months in prison. The Legal Department of Li Auto said: Regarding the rumor that "the camera in the MEGA car captured pornographic images", Li Auto recently received a first-instance criminal verdict from the court.
The verdict found that the defendant Wang fabricated false information and spread it on the Internet, causing trouble and causing serious disorder in public order. This constituted the crime of provoking trouble and was subject to criminal punishment in accordance with the law.
The court found that on the evening of April 14, 2024, the defendant Wang forwarded a pornographic picture to nearly 20 WeChat groups in order to attract attention and brag about his talents, and fabricated and published false text information claiming that the pornographic picture was shot by the car camera of Li Auto’s new product MEGA launched in March 2024 and then leaked.
Afterwards, the false information attracted nearly 10 million views on various online platforms, as well as a large number of reposts and comments. Related topics such as Li Auto's leakage of customer privacy triggered heated discussions on online platforms, causing heavy losses and negative impact on Li Auto.
We hereby reiterate that Li Auto respects and protects user privacy and security, and all data processing activities strictly comply with the relevant requirements of national laws and regulations. We believe that right and wrong have their own merits, and that fairness comes from the simple justice of the human heart. We believe that malicious smearing may succeed for a while, but illegal crimes will never escape judicial sanctions. We believe that the law will eventually protect every law-abiding person and company that abides by the rules.
It can be seen from the verdict that the defendant Wang was guilty of picking quarrels and provoking trouble and was sentenced to seven months in prison. He himself also sent a "letter of apology" to Li Auto.
It is worth mentioning that after the rumor appeared, Li Auto's legal department made a statement, saying that "criminals used equipment other than vehicles to shoot pornographic images, and used the means of grafting others to disseminate and smear them through WeChat groups. The methods are extremely dirty and the circumstances are extremely serious. It is a typical illegal and criminal act." It also said that it had reported the case to the public security organ.
