The much-anticipated second season of "Squidward" was launched on December 26 last year. It attracted 68 million viewers in just three days after its launch, setting a new record for weekly ratings on the Netflix platform and becoming the most popular Netflix TV program in 92 countries and regions.
The popularity index of the new season even surpasses some of the old and popular programs, such as the NFL live broadcast hosted by Netflix with great efforts, and Beyoncé hosted the halftime song and dance show, attracting more than 30 million people to watch. Based on the current popularity data, industry insiders predict that the new season's viewing record will eventually surpass the first season and become the most watched program in Netflix's history.
The first season of "Squidward" achieved a record of 265.2 million views in the first three months. This result has not been surpassed by other Netflix programs in more than three years, such as the strong "Stranger Things" and "Wednesday", the latter recorded 252 million views.
The second season of "Squidward" has surpassed "Wednesday" in terms of first-week record to set Netflix's highest first-week record, and now has more than 80 days to set the highest ratings record in history.
Netflix launched a promotional campaign in Brazil, Italy, Indonesia and other countries and regions, and online fan activities also attracted more than 6 million people to support the show. The scale of the event and the number of participants not only exceeded the first season, but also preceded Netflix's other flagship dramas, such as "Stranger Things" Season 4, "Bridgerton" Season 3, "Wednesday" and "One Piece".
"Squidward" will make a comeback next year, when Netflix releases the show's third and final season.
