Newzoo, a gaming industry market research organization, recently issued a report stating that if Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard early, the combination of the two companies will allow Microsoft to surpass Sony in game software revenue. Technically, this would allow Xbox to overtake PlayStation on the gaming charts for the first time in years, if not ever.

In reality, Microsoft ranks fourth in the first half of 2023, lagging behind Tencent, Sony, and Apple, which have always been dominant. Activision Blizzard ranks seventh, but if the acquisition had occurred last year, Microsoft Gaming would have ranked second, surpassing Sony and PlayStation.

This will be the first time in history that Microsoft has surpassed Sony in the gaming field, but it still cannot surpass China's Tencent. Let's face it, no one is going to beat this company any time soon.

According to a NewZoo report, Tencent’s game revenue in the first half of 2023 was as high as US$15.4 billion. Sony (and PlayStation) is at about $8.08 billion, while Microsoft is at $6 billion.
