Social media platform According to The new verification system was leaked back in August.

The feature’s pop-up notes that X is working with Israeli verification company AU10TIX to facilitate the new authorization feature. All verification information, including photos of user IDs and "extracted biometric data", may be retained by AU10TIX for up to 30 days. This may explain why X updated its privacy policy at the end of August to include an exception for "biometric information."

Authentication benefits for XPremium users include: a line that says "This account is authenticated" when anyone clicks the blue checkmark, and priority support from the X service. Additionally, other benefits such as a streamlined review process required to obtain the blue check and more flexible account changes including profile photo, display name and username are also in development.

If the account name or intended use changes, account ownership is transferred to another user, the account becomes inactive, or for undisclosed "safety and security purposes," users may be asked to reauthenticate the account using a government-issued ID.

X said it will also provide the option to use ID verification for "certain X features" as a way to increase trust in the platform. The company didn't elaborate on what those features will be, but claimed that users who choose to participate may receive "additional benefits related to specific X features" in the future. These benefits are only available to individual users and exclude business and organizational accounts.

ID-based verification is currently available in "many countries," but X did not elaborate on where. However, this currently does not include the EU, European Economic Area or the UK, possibly due to strict data protection laws in these regions. X said that identity verification will be expanded to these areas "soon".
