iPhone 15 Pro may bring better 5G connectivity. According to data from SpeedSmart (via 9to5Mac), the data suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro will have 24% faster 5G download speeds compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro.

Data from SpeedSmart shows that the biggest jump occurs on the Verizon network, where the iPhone 14 Pro has an average download speed of 195.83Mbps, while the iPhone 15 Pro has an average download speed of 243.06Mbps. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro on T-Mobile had the fastest average 5G download speed at 300.92Mbps, while the average 5G download speed on AT&T was 204.34Mbps.

Despite such drastic changes, upload speeds across the three major carriers have only improved slightly. The reason for the improvement may be related to the upgrade of iPhone15Pro and ProMax modems.

While Apple didn't mention which modem the devices come with, SpeedSmart says the Pro models come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X70 modem, which the company claims offers "unparalleled data speeds, coverage, and latency." The modem also features an integrated artificial intelligence processor designed to improve its connectivity across 5G frequencies, including shortwave millimeter wave signals. The Snapdragon X70 modem is also present in the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.

Although Apple is rumored to be developing its own 5G modem, the company recently extended its modem supply agreement until 2026, so we may have to wait a few more generations before we see anything from Apple. iPhone 15 is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on September 22.
