After announcing that some of the iOS 18 features promised in the Apple Intelligence Siri feature would be delayed, Apple adjusted its promotional wording for iOS 18. The wording on the iPadOS 18 and macOSSequoia web pages was also adjusted, especially the mention of the delayed Siri feature was deleted.
There's a section called "The Beginning of a New Era for Siri," which previously hinted that Siri would be more capable and helpful than ever thanks to the Personal Context feature, which isn't available yet.
Now, the wording has been updated to point to broader product knowledge, as this is a feature Apple is rolling out in iOS 18.2.
Before: With richer language understanding and awareness of personal context, Siri is more capable and helpful than ever.
After: With richer language understanding and extensive product knowledge about your device, Siri is more helpful than ever.
Apple has been highlighting Siri's unavailable features on its website and in ads since last June, but with Siri's delays, Apple is cleaning up its wording to avoid misleading customers. Apple smart features are a major selling point of the iPhone 16, but none of these features were available when the iPhone 16 models were launched. Some features appear in iOS 18.1, iOS 18.2 and iOS 18.3, but they are not the Siri features that Apple has been showing off.
Apple bundled new Siri features with iPhone 16 models, and users were disappointed when it became clear that the updated Siri features wouldn't be rolling out in the near future. Earlier this week, Apple removed an iPhone 16 ad showing "more personal Siri," so it's no surprise that the wording on the website has also been updated.
Last week, Apple said that "it will take us longer than we thought to deliver" a more personalized Siri with the ability to do more within and across apps, with those features starting to roll out "within the next year."
Apple planned to release Siri features in iOS 18.4, including personalized context, screen awareness and deeper app integration, but when the first few beta versions of iOS 18.4 were released, Siri had no new features and it was clear that Siri was not ready yet. There was some speculation that Apple might introduce these features in iOS 18.5, but it now sounds like the promised smarter, more powerful Siri features won't be available until iOS 19.
