Recently, a new report from Bloomberg quoted the views of multiple analysts and investors, pointing out that the price of Switch 2 may exceed US$400, and may still break the historical launch sales record of the gaming industry. Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki spoke with analysts who "frequently communicate with Nintendo" as well as "its software and hardware partners," and the consensus is that the Switch 2 will cost at least $400, and there are signs that U.S. tariffs may push the price up further.
If true, the Switch 2 will become Nintendo's most expensive console, surpassing the $350 Wii U Deluxe Edition.
Even though the Switch 2 will cost more, analysts and investors expect it to sell more, in part because they predict the console will have a perfect lineup of companion games in its first year.
Tokyo-based game industry analyst Serkan Toto said: "Especially in the first few months, Switch 2 sales will be very high, almost regardless of price. We can expect an excellent game lineup in the first year, such as the new "Mario Kart", "Pokémon Legend Z-A" and other games, and there will also be third-party game support, most likely including masterpieces like "Call of Duty"."
Robin Zhu, an analyst from investment firm Sanford C. Bernstein, expects Switch 2 to be launched in June, with first-day inventory of 6 million to 8 million units. If this number holds true and early sales go as well as expected, this will be the most successful console launch ever. By comparison, the current record holder is the PS5, which sold an estimated 3.4 million units in its first four weeks.
Nintendo will release more information about Switch 2 at a direct press conference on April 2, 2025, so stay tuned.
