Artificial intelligence search engine Perplexity just released a new ad featuring "Squidward" star Lee Jung-jae, who is trapped in a room and must answer a series of questions to escape. One of the questions was about Google's hilarious AI robot mistakes last year. Lee Jung-jae used Perplexity to answer "How to make cheese stick to pizza?"
AI Overview in Google Search leverages search results from across the web to provide AI-written summaries. However, users were quick to identify problems with the feature, including one specific reply stating that "mixing about 1/8 cup of Elmer's Glue into the sauce" can make cheese stick to the pizza.
Amid growing competition from Perplexity and others, Google announced earlier this month that it would start showing AI overviews for more queries, whether they are needed or not. Meanwhile, Perplexity, which calls itself an "answer engine," has been accused of plagiarizing content.
In the new ad, Lee pulls out his phone to look for answers, and after getting disappointing results from "Poogle," he turns to "Perplexity" for answers. "Use fresh, low-moisture mozzarella. Don't use glue," says Perplexity's AI assistant.
